Today saw a breezy but dry start to the celebrations, with a large crowd of suitable dressed revellers.

The pier was a hub of activity as the "World Pier Crab catching competition" got under way, children and parents trying their luck to get the biggest catch, a wide variety of tackle was evident, from traditional fishing lines, to rather more elaborate basket type gear, the bait was also varied from strips of fish, squid worms, and some even had flavored bread, which will catch the most I wonder, but the concentration and fierce competition was very evident in some of the competitors, while others took a more leisurely approach, but catching crabs on Cromer Pier has always been a good pastime.

The pier Forecourt and Esplanade was awash with colour from the  stalls many decorated with traditional crab and lobster pots, Davis's fish stall had demonstrations of crab dressing and Lobster Pot Making ,which drew wide audiences, as did the Tesco Vehicle  demonstrating on how to prepare and advice on how to cook some of the more unusual fish, as well as  the more common fish, one that surprised me was a Gurnard we were told a very good tasting fish, but I must admit more popular as bait for the Crab and Lobster pots  in this area.   The sausage stall selling hot dogs was doing a roaring trade in the breezy conditions. There were numerous craft stalls, even a stall selling Crab and Lobster biscuits, services like theR.N.L.I. Coastguard Air Ambulance also had stalls as did the Fisherman's Mission.

Follow the" windbreak" trail and spot all the windbreaks that are spread all over Cromer and Sheringham  you may get lucky and win a prise if you can find them all.

Many of the local food outlets are putting on crab and Lobster orientated menus at various prices for the food lovers, this is not to be missed fresh sea food, what could be better I ask

A wide variety of street entertainment was on offer from our own clown "Razz and Aunty Pearl" to stilt walkers, and of course a Punch and Judy show,  there was even a couple of guys in a bath held up aloft with the caption "bath with a friend and save water" ,the kids seemed to be captivated by these performers.

At the museum there was a knitting demonstration  of traditional fisherman's jumpers" Ganseys" these are in different patterns which signify family or locations, in another part of the museum fish related stories  where being told for the children .

There are many more events around the town today and also in Sheringham tomorrow.

All profits from the weekend will go to the "Fisherman's Mission" and other local charity's.
